Synopsis
This volume is a new follow-up volume that complements Dynamic Light Scattering (1993) by the same author. The volume is directed to the recent development in the light scattering technique and to describing a wide spectrum of its applications. Both the theoretical development and utilization are traced by authors who are expert in their fields. Development in static light scattering as applied to simple liquids, polymer solutions, and multi-component polymer mixtures are dealt with. The scattering theory of colloidal dispersions is described and scattering from rod-like polyelectolytes is reviewed. There are chapters on concentrated polymer systems, aggregation phenomena, polymer-polymer interactions, polyelectrolytes in solution. Emphasis is given to more complex systems, for example, ternary polymer systems, complex micellar systems, and block copolymers in the ordered and disordered states. Low-angle light scattering is reviewed, as well as simultaneous static and dynamic light scattering. The determination of particle size distributions and combined chromatographic light scattering techniques are also treated., Light scattering has become a powerful and widely-used technique in colloidal and macromolecular science in the last decade. This comprehensive volume describes recent developments in light scattering and a wide spectrum of its applications. Both are traced by experts in the field. Topics include static light scattering as applied to simple liquids, polymer solutions, and multi-component polymer mixtures; the scattering theory of colloidal dispersions; scattering from rod-like polyelectrolytes; low angle light scattering; concentrated polymer systems; aggregation phenomena; polymer-polymer interactions; and polyelectrolytes in solution. Emphasis is given to more complex systems, for example, ternary polymer systems, complex micellar systems, block copolymers in the ordered and disordered states, the determination of particle size distributions, and combined chromatographic light scattering techniques., This volume is a complementary, follow-up volume to the author's Dynamic Light Scattering published in 1993. Light scattering is a powerful and widely-used technique for studying macromolecular systems both in the pure state and in solution. It is applied variously on high-molecular-weight polymers, colloids and proteins as well as organized assemblies such as vesicular and micellar systems. Some major applications of the technique are to the study of phase transitions and critical phenomena. This book traces recent developments in light scattering and provides an extensive review of its applications which are of fundamental importance.
